A New Day

We just finished talking to the transplant surgeon and, in short, everything went as smoothly as possible. Eddie went to the OR around 1:30am and over the next three and a half hours was put on heart/lung bypass and had his Berlin Heart "decommissioned." The heart arrived at 5am and Dr. Cohen was able to implant it, make the five connections (superior vena cava, inferior vena cava, aorta, pulmonary arteries, and coronary arteries) and close Eddie's chest is about 90 minutes.

This has been a truly miraculous night for us. We are getting ready to see Eddie right now. We love you!

  5. Yesterday was a great day but today will be much better. Can't wait to see Eddie running across the lawn again! I wish I could be there to go on walks with him. I remember how hard it was to walk over uneven grass. We are overjoyed to see this happen. What a miracle as occurred in our lives because of Eddie! Thanks to all who are Eddie's team!

  6. I don't know how many times I have read and reread this post. It was just now though that I noticed the page view counter changes while I'm on the page. In about 20 seconds it changed 4 times. You have so many people following your story and rejoicing in this moment with you.
I wanted to make sure someone in the Seattle 3rd Ward was available to get over to the hospital in case you needed anything last night. I was lucky enough- blessed enough to talk to Ann Romish (hope she doesn't mind me posting her last name). This woman has such love for you all. I could honestly feel her spirit while she talked. She spoke about what marvelous people you are. She shared stories of you, Sarah, comforting others while enduring your own trial. I hear people cannot walk down the hall without you offering support or a hug. John, Ann talked of you and how she can depend on you to help with blessing another. She said the character you both add to other patients is incredible. These are amazing talents you have! Thank you so much for involving us all through this blog. We love you all!

  7. What wonderful news! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us. It has been a great blessing in our live and has strengthened our faith in a loving Heavenly Father and the power of prayer. When we heard that Eddie was getting his new heart the first thing Sam said to me was, "Yes! Now when Eddie is healed and home from the hospital we can have the Harpers come over for dinner again". We do love having you guys over. We will be praying for a quick and uneventful recovery.
